Tell us about what you are working on right now.
Base Zero is a combined hardware and software solution for institutional custody of digital assets, such as Bitcoin, Ether, and ERC20 tokens. The chief benefit of a Base Zero implementation is it allows totally secure cold storage of digital assets, while maintaining instant liquidity and 24/7 real-time transaction capability.
Please tell us about your background and how you got into your field. What is your story of how you got here?
Matt led the development of the Ubuntu Linux operating system as CTO for its first seven years, as it grew to become the most widely used and loved Linux. ’s engineering leadership was essential to the launch and expansion of Ubuntu Linux, where he was CTO for the company’s first seven years. Matt also served as CTO and CISO of Denizen (BBVA), a borderless banking platform, and VP Engineering at Heroku. Today, Matt is CEO of Base Zero, a cryptocurrency security company that helps financial institutions to self-custody digital assets.
In the next five years, what are the most important things to keep and eye on in your field? Why?
In the next few years, the crypto ecosystem will become more integrated with today’s financial networks. This shift will bring about opportunities for both large and small players, and the most exciting new developments are yet to come.
