Can you give us a teaser of your talk?
What happens when you combine robotics with a car? One instance is the Elevate Concept. While it's still in the early design phases, Elevate is based on existing technology. It's uses include search and rescue, extreme off-road travel, and door-to-door transportation of goods and people.
There are big dreams for technology, but a lot it depends on core, tough, and fundamental technologies.
Tell us about what you are working on right now.
Contributing to the transformation of Hyundai Motor Group.
What is your background?
My background includes degrees in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. My early career was in the automotive industry, but I left to get a PhD. After that, I went to work at PARC where worked in a robotics team. I worked in several startups, but decided to return to the automotive industry. Today, I'm the founding director Hyundai CRADLE.
What should we look out for in the next 5 years?
There are big dreams for technology, but a lot it depends on core, tough, and fundamental technologies. Some areas are in need of breakthroughs. And without those, the broad application of future mobility will be difficult.
Who is doing good work in your field?
Mark Yim and Allison Okamura. They are working on fundamental technologies in robotics.
How do you hope Tulip will be different / better?
Every conference brings it unique audience. I'm hoping to meet people whom I would not meet from other conferences.
